This is a brief introduction to the concept of leadership influencing skills that will be of interest to anyone involved in managing teams. People are the key to project success and so good leadership depends on strong influencing skills. We all have preferred influencing styles and an awareness of these enables team leaders to develop greater awareness of their own impact on their teams and can facilitate developing new ways to interact positively with team members. The presentation provides background and an overview of a common method of identifying influencing technique and is based on material that has been developed for use with sports teams.
Joe Whelehan is a former Naval Marine Engineering Officer and subsequently Engineering & Facilities manager who now runs a coaching and training practice, JNG Associates. He is a registered PMP in good standing and has extensive experience of senior level project management work and training delivery in Ireland and overseas. Having completed an MSc in Personal & Management Coaching in 2014, he has also developed a coaching practice, providing 1-to-1 leadership and management coaching to individuals and teams. Recent coaching projects include the ongoing provision of leadership coaching to School Principals on behalf off the DES and various private coaching assignments to individuals.

Katie Flood leads major business transformation programmes mainly in the Energy industry with EY’s Energy & Assets clients, having helped many Irish and International utilities to implement major changes Katie has most recently supported ESB in delivering a new Energy Trading capability for the Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM). Katie holds a masters in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Management and a BSc in Computer Science. Having been involved in major programmes for the past 15 years Katie has seen first-hand the growing role of data and information in decision making and the perils of analysis paralysis which can prevent programmes from moving forward at pace.
