Chapter Webinar: The New PMP® Exam

Ways of Working

The New PMP® Exam and the Approved Training Partner (ATP) Programme

The Project Management Institute has changed the makeup of the Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam radically. The good news is that the new exam is still based on the sixth edition of the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). However, the Project Management Institute wants to move the exam away from a strong focus on processes.

Instead, the new exam is much more interested in how value is delivered. To that end, only half of the new exam will test process knowledge. The rest will test your understanding of people – the role of the project manager, developing and managing the team and engaging with stakeholders – and the business environment.

Also, there will be a strong emphasis on agile project management, with roughly half of the questions having some sort of agile slant. To elaborate on these topics, the Institute references several other sources, including the Agile Practice Guide that accompanies the PMBOK® Guide

As well as making this radical change to the PMP® exam, the Project Management Institute has changed the way its training partners operate. Up until now, a training company could submit its training materials to the Institute and become a Registered Education Provider (REP) if they approved.

However, today the Institute has developed its own training materials and insists that anyone training students to sit the PMP® exam must be an Approved Training Partner (ATP) and make use of these materials in its courses.
Anyone signing up for a PMP® exam preparation course with an Approved Training Provider, such as Velopi, will be given access to all this material – available from the Institute’s own online learning management system.

Webinar Overview

This one-hour webinar will introduce you to the Approved Training Partner programme as well as the major changes that have occurred in the PMP® exam itself.

Target Audience

If you attended a PMP® exam preparation course before these changes came into effect (i.e. before January 2nd, 2021) and did not, for work or personal reasons, sit the exam, this webinar is for you. It is also relevant for those who did not pass the PMP® exam on a previous attempt.  In fact, it will be of interest to experienced project managers who have reached the stage of their careers when they are considering PMP® certification.
