In general, there are two routes to education and training. Both routes can supply the necessary contact hours required for certification exams (e.g. for PMP, PMI-ACP)

  1. Training Courses
    • Often focused on preparation for certification exams
    • Typically 2 to 4 day courses scheduled throughout the year
    • Authorised Training Partners (ATPs) provide quality training (for the most up-to-date information on Authorised Training Partners (ATPS) visit pmi.org)
  2. Third Level Education Courses leading to certificates, diplomas and degrees
    • Typically start in Sep/Oct and Jan/Feb
    • Offered by Third Level Colleges (sometimes in collaboration with training companies)
    • Government schemes such as Springboard sometimes fund specific courses
    • Variety of part-time and full time and distance learning options

Note: Organisations often have separate funding mechanisms for training courses and further education. You should consult your own organisation's practices and policies.
