What is Mentoring?
The Ireland Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) provides mentoring opportunities for all our members through our Mentorship Programme "PM MentorMe".
Mentoring is a mutual sharing of experiences and opinions to create agreed-upon outcomes. The programme is designed to elevate our service offering by providing a structured platform for developing and strengthening project management competencies within our profession. It also aligns with our strategic goal to foster a shared sense of community and support the career growth of our younger members.
How does the programme work?
The Ireland chapter of PMI Mentoring Programme is based on a one-on-one format.
As a mentee, you'll gain practical knowledge and insights from seasoned practitioners who have achieved a high level of expertise. Mentors and mentees are paired based on shared interests, industries, skills, and other similarities. Participants in the programme are encouraged to agree their goals up-front and together discuss challenges, exchange ideas, and gain new perspectives on various aspects of project management, all aimed at enhancing their professional development.
For mentors, this programme offers a chance to expand their leadership skills and give back to the project management community. The experience provides both mentors and mentees with valuable professional and social networking opportunities, making it a rewarding journey for all involved.
What is the role of a mentor and mentee?
Am I eligible to apply?
All participants must be members of PMI Ireland Chapter and in good standing. Mentors need to have a minimum of 10 years experience in the field of project management. Mentors have volunteer status within Ireland Chapter of PMI and are therefore required to complete a standard Confidentiality Agreement and Conflict of Interest form prior to participation.
Both partners must commit to meet a minimum of once every month for a minimum of six months. Mentors and mentees must mutually agree on a schedule. Meeting more frequently is encouraged, but not required. Please contact mentoring@pmi-ireland.org if your situation changes or that you are no longer able to meet the minimum requirements.
Do I earn PDU points?
- If you are the mentor, you can claim PDUs for "Giving Back to the Profession" for the time you spent mentoring. You can claim 1 PDU for every hour spent mentoring, up to a maximum of 25 PDUs per certification cycle.
- If you are the mentee, you can claim PUs for "Education" for the time you spend being mentored. You can claim 1 PDU for every hour spent being mentored, up to a maximum of 30 PDUs per certification cycle.
It's important to note that the mentoring relationship must be focused on developing your project management skills & knowledge and must be with someone who is not a colleague or supervisor.
