Technical Program Manager – an evolutionary conversation
Technical Program Manager – an evolutionary conversation
Early in the 2010’s, the role of a product manager was something from non-existent to rare. Fintechs and startups back then were small enough for the CEO and engineers easily manage the roadmap.
Project managers, on the other hand, had existed for quite some time and its skillsets are transferrable even when the professional comes from a non-technical background.
The TPM role itself was not born academically and is not a new name for something that already existed.
It emerged from the evolution of two roles which still exist but that at some point, converged to a bottleneck between the necessity of ensuring a detailed requirement is available and a product is delivered on time. On this event, we will understand the origins of this role, define the links between the TPMs, Product and Engineering and highlight the main aspects and intersections between a Technical Program Manager and a Technical Product Manager.
