Sustainability

Sustainability is complex and fast-evolving challenge, one which means different things to different people. Climate change is a societal issue that transcends national borders and sectors. The pursuit of sustainability and the collective effort to mitigate climate change have become local and global imperatives.

PMI recognises the urgent need for project managers to be armed with the relevant information, tools and techniques to identify and deliver projects with consideration for climate change and sustainability and that project managers need to position themselves at the forefront of change by responsibly carrying out an awareness towards Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues that may impact corporate cultures, investments, and favourable placement within economies.

Our Sustainability Community of Practice

In September 2023, The PMI established a Sustainability Community of Practice (COP) to support members.  The essence of the COP lies in its collaborative nature—a platform that unites project managers who share a vision of environmental stewardship and climate resilience. This community thrives on the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions that drive the agenda of sustainability and climate action forward. Through continual learning and collective impact, the COP empowers its members to become change agents in their day-to-day lives. PMI wants to inspire and encourage PMI members to be knowledgeable and proactively involved in climate change and sustainability Goals from their project’s “cradle to cradle” stages.

  • The Sustainability Community of Practice is for all Project Managers who have an interest in Sustainability and who’s projects need to take measures to deliver sustainability outcomes or improvements.
  • Often the links for sustainability may not be obvious at first, what seems like a supply chain project or a digital project can actually be formally or informally a sustainability project
  • Sustainability can drive value, improve perception of a product or service and can bring social and societal benefits, beyond the standard project KPI’s
  • The purpose of the community of practice is to allow for greater sharing of ideas on how to shape sustainability projects and the complexities involved in delivering and achieving the benefits for these.

The COP activities will include connecting with individuals and entities involved in sustainability, the sharing of learnings and importantly, in projects collaboration.

The Sustainability COP also offers many resources and support:
